Stories and Myths
These have long been the media used by people of all cultures throughout the world to relate spiritual and life truths to each other. It has always been understood that lifting up images, concepts, and ideas are the best we can do when talking of spiritual and Godly things. Jesus made use of similes with his parables; ‘The kingdom of heaven is like...,’ and other spiritual leaders have done the same. Many have used negation as a tool, ‘not that, not that...’
Sadly in our western culture too much emphasis has been place on historical accuracy and the literal meaning of spiritual writings and the concept of story for the purpose of relaying a truth has largely been lost. So often it is asked, ‘Did that really happen?,’ with the answer to that question being the determining factor on whether or not to believe the story. The ancients would never ask such a question. Storytellers of old would begin the reciting of their tales by saying, ‘I have a story to tell you. Now, I can’t say whether this really happened or not, but I do know that it is true.’
The purpose of this web site is to celebrate spiritual storytelling and mythology, and to lift them up as effective means of conveying spiritual truths, and teaching us about God and ourselves. Browse through the site and have fun. Add your comments on the forum or feed back pages. Become a member and chat. Contribute a story of your own that you think is appropriate to the theme of this site.
In all of your spiritual quests and endeavours, I wish you peace.
